Practical Fishing/Advertising Tips
Sometimes Your Born With It
In Colorado we are born with a rod in one hand and a pair of skis in the other. Call this what you may its practically true. If your not an "outdoorsie" kind of person then you might want to move to a more urban state. From all of this life and cultural experience I have in being "outdoorsie" and living in Colorado most of my life I have a few marketing lessons from fishing. Call this the, "how we catch fish and how it relates to positive ROI advertising" blog post.
Fish in the right pond
If you are fishing for large fish you wouldn’t head to the mountains of Colorado to catch a large shark. I know this seems simple but we see businesses owners making this mistake all the time. Know where your target market will be and go advertising there. Understand what their habits are and how they devour media.
Use the right bait
If a fish eats the same thing over and over again it will grow tired of eating that and look for new. If you look and feel like your competition then your the same food over and over again. Your company must be unique otherwise your target market will look somewhere else to fill its needs. Focus on your unique selling points of your business to catch the perfect fish.
Fish Frequently
You can’t catch a fish if your line isn’t in the water. Pulling your line out of the water will increase your likelihood of going home hungry to 100%. Advertise consistently and frequently to be fed in your business.
Fish from the other shore
Changing your location but fishing in the same pond is a great way for you to catch new fish. Advertising is about catching people off guard. Changing small things have a large influence on your catch. It is ok to experiment but make sure you don’t spend all day experimenting and not catching. Results are still key to catch fish.
Find A Honey Hole
Having a go to spot that just works every time is fantastic. This helps you refocus what is important. In a majority of companies this is the website. Call it what you want but it the central single piece of media that makes your job easy. The internet is the way business advertise after the new millennium. This is the new digital economy be diligent of having a great website that catches fish for you all day long.
Keep a finger on the line
Professional fisherman can tell you that they will feel the fish on the line before it strikes. This small feedback of vibrations through the line will give the fisherman great feedback. This is like your advertising. Track, measure and analyse your data. Many companies use google analytics or other website tracking software. Know where your bites and strikes are coming from then focus on catching the most from that avenue.
Ugly Flies
Sometimes the ugly lures work the best. Don’t worry about new or different ways of advertising. New and unique will catch the fish, just walk through the bait section at your local sporting goods store.
